It all started in 2012

Following concern about the pressures on our markets and town centres from internet and out of town shopping.

That year Mary Portas made recommendations to Government to hold a national market day and NABMA took up the banner making Love Your Local Market what it is today.  Last year 1,200 of the UK’s markets took part, making it the biggest markets event for a generation.  To date over 10,000 opportunities have been made available to startups with operators offering incentivised pitches to test trade during Love Your Local Market.

Youth Market Competition

Since 2014 we have been encouraging operators to start over 100 youth markets.

For #LYLM2016 we joined forces with the National Market Traders Federation to hold a competition with young people being encouraged to join the National Youth Market in Manchester.

Marks and Spencer, Monsoon and Superdry all famously started global brands on market stalls.

Today’s entrepreneurs are starting restaurants, selling wholesale and expanding their businesses by selling online whilst retaining the market side of their operation to train staff, gain customer feedback and hold on to an edgy brand image.

The Love Your Local Market brand is available to operators year round to raise local affection and awareness.

Our Merchandising Partner and headline sponsor Gala Tent can supply all of your event needs with t-shirt’s, bunting, umbrellas, flags, badges, car stickers and much more.  You can personalise your material by having your own artwork and logos incorporated and there are packages for market traders to decorate your stalls or give out freebies during Love Your Local Market fortnight or at any time of the year.
